Our Polegrate Grasshoppers' U15s team is currently at the top of the league after playing seven games, winning five and drawing on two. Their last game resulted in the final score of 8-0!
The team are playing exceptionally well, with thanks to the coaches, players and their parents for all of their hard work and commitment.
Mark, the teams manager wrote a report of their last game that is great to read.
With the weather and conditions perfect, it made for a good game of football…
For the first 5 minutes we looked like a team.
From the off we passed the ball, communicated well and continued to show the improved intensity from the start, which is becoming more consistent.
S was unfortunate not to open the account as his early shot went over the bar. G had a chance falling to him which the keeper saved well and B’s lob went agonisingly close. T was terrific, keen to impress, supporting the advanced players whilst getting his tackles in. J was keeping it simple, linking defence to attack well.
We scored from a breakaway corner where we had space to work with. S received the ball in midfield and played a perfect through ball for T who beat the offside track. He still had a lot of work to do as isn’t the quickest, but did ever so well to finish, 1-0
It relaxed the team as we very quickly went 2-0 up with G scoring his first ever goal from outfield in front of his family!
H was getting in all the right positions and was unlucky not to score after a great bit of play from the team with D crossing in. We made it 3-0 just before the break after B found K to score his first! HT 3-0.
Despite the scoreline, we needed to rectify very quickly and make the point what the team were doing wrong. At times it was like watching them play a fun last 10min training session game with all the training just out the window. We made our message clear at half time and have to say it resulted in a wonderful 40 mins of football the players put on show.
D scored a great curling shot in the top corner, one of his best to make it four.
T scored his second after S once again slid him in to make it five.
We had more chances. M headed H's corner over the bar and S shot went agonisingly close.
We were dominant.
The team were using the space available much better and passing it back to obtain possession. Z was showing his leadership qualities and H was very calm at the back.
A was very composed in goal when called upon, taking his opportunity well.
The team was playing some great football and the goal of the day fell to K after some wonderful interchanging of passing in midfield. Sensational stuff!.
K secured his hat trick soon after, with another sublime pass from S. S came off at the end disappointed he hadn’t scored. But I did explain to him his contribution was instrumental, didn’t go unnoticed and that I’d rather see him assist three goals than score one!
We pushed C up front in the last few minutes, who didn’t disappoint before D capping off a great second half display with another solo goal, his second of the day in the last few minutes ⚽️🤩👏🏼! FT 8-0.
